Giselle Ates is an author and educator. She teaches writing workshops and offers private and semi-private tutoring in Kingwood, Texas. She also facilitates a Facebook group, Women of the Word--TESA, where she posts microblogs from her daily devotions. When she’s not teaching, Giselle Ates enjoys writing. She has created numerous mystery party productions as fundraisers for different organizations along with many poems, skits, plays, and stories. Several of her Blinged Out Shakespearean plays as well as children’s books—The Adventures of Mitzie Mae the Texas Aussie and Chai the Samurai—are available through Amazon.com.
Currently, she is in the process of publishing the rest of her Blinged Out Shakespearean plays via Amazon and is working on several on-going writing projects including a book of poems for teaching poetry, her first novel—Fractured Reflections, and two Christian books: Ocean Devotions (co-authored with Mark Ates) and Delightful Devotions (focusing on weight loss and healthy living).
Before beginning her teaching career, Mrs. Ates worked as a registered nurse at Ben Taub Hospital for Baylor College of Medicine. In 1992 Giselle left her nursing job to homeschool her two youngest children. While teaching her own kids, she began writing and offering classes to other children as well as creating and leading various extra-curricular clubs, activities, and organizations including founding CHATA (a community service group) and the Epsilon chapter of Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society. In 2009, she joined the Home Run staff where she taught fourth through twelfth grade students English, speech, drama, poetry, writing, and computer classes until 2015.
Since the very beginning of her teaching career, Giselle Ates has encouraged all of her students to write and share their creations. As one of their rewards for their writing endeavors, she began publishing their books, stories, and poems. For almost two decades, she hosted Author Parties and library displays through different academic and service organizations and helped students self-publish their creations.
Over time, she created Tesa Publications, which is an anagram for Ates and stands for Teaching & Encouraging Scriptural Applications. Several of these Tesa publications are available electronically through Amazon’s Kindle services; the rest reside in the hands of their authors or have been previously published on different websites. The goal of Tesa Publications now is to publish current and past poems, plays, and stories written by Giselle Ates and her students; so, this website remains a work-in-progress.
When not teaching or writing, Giselle enjoys spending time with her husband Mark, her three adult children (Michelle, Joshua, and Kayla) and their families, as well as her three constant canine companions (Tessie, Toni, and Mitzie Mae). She also enjoys beachcombing, parasailing, puzzling, snapping photos, loom knitting, and reading, watching, and listening to all kinds of stories. Her primary mission in life is serving God by serving others.
