(Christian Homeschoolers in the Atascocita Texas Area)

Serving Christ by Serving Others

History & Purpose

  • Founded on January 1, 2000, CHATA sponsors and promotes community service projects and activities around the Atascocita, Texas area including Houston, Huffman, Humble, Kingwood, New Caney, Porter, and Summerwood.

  • While adult volunteers oversee the overall direction of the organization, student members provide the leadership and implement the actual projects.

  • Members of the Epsilon chapter of Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society (ESA) lead CHATA members in faciltating the service actitivies.

  • CHATA began in 2000 when one mom, Giselle Ates, wanted to provide her children with public speaking and community service opportunities.

  • While she served as the primary director until her children graduated, CHATA grew from one family to over thirty with multiple children volunteering and leading hundreds of projects and facilitating thousands of community service hours.

  • When Mrs. Ates learned about the ESA national homeschool organization that Joanne Juren began in 1999, CHATA sponsored one of ESA’s first chapters—Epsilon.

  • As Epsilon and CHATA continued to grow, Karen Griswold volunteered as a co-director.

  • When the Ates children graduated from highschool as ESA-Epsilon members—each serving over 1,000 hours of community service, Mrs. Griswold became the primary director, and SueAnne Casey became her co-director.

  •  Both of these women also served faithfully for several years until their children graduated from highschool with ESA and CHATA honors also having led hundreds of projects and working thousands of communtity service hours.

  • The current CHATA and ESA-Epsilon director is Kathi Haller.

  • While the leadership and membership changes every year, CHATA and ESA-Epsilon continue in their mission of serving Christ by serving others.
