Intermediate Explorations Classes
These are classes at Home Run Ministries in Kingwood, Texas, taught by Giselle Ates.
While there are regular assignments, there are no official report cards and all homework is optional.
While we use a variety of resources for these classes, our primary text is the Student Resource Notebook from the Institute for Excellence in Writing.

Intro to English
This class meets on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and is for students in fourth grade and up.
The purpose of the class is to encourage creative writing and dramatic reading while preparing students for Home Run's academic classes.
During most classes, we discuss literature, dramatically read plays, memorize poems, summarize biographies, and share poems, stories, and essays that we've written for the weekly optional homework activities.
Explorations in Writing
This class meets on Tuesday afternoons and is for adults and students.
The purpose of this class is to teach and practice:
The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s (IEW) stylistic techniques (Sentence Openers, Dress- Ups, Decorations, and other Advanced Techniques)
Elements of Excellent Stories (tantalizing titles, exciting expositions, captivating characters, stimulating settings, compelling conflicts, strong themes, meaningful morals, dynamic dialogue, invigorating vocabulary, and more!)
Essentials of Exceptional Essays (1-Paragraph essays and multi-paragraph essays with an introduction, conclusion, and body paragraphs, thesis statement, topic sentences, transitional words and phrases, and clinchers.
Participants will be encouraged to write, edit, and read a story or essay each week.
